The Breadwinner Blu-ray and DVD Packaging, Press Advert and Digital Assets for StudioCanal.
Having previously worked on The Secret of Kells and loved Song of The Sea, I was delighted to be able to work on The Breadwinner, another animation from Cartoon Saloon. It was a joy to get the images through and look in depth at the beautiful illustrations. Adapting the theatrical poster artwork, the packaging was a balance of adapting the layout for the proportionally different sleeves, squeezing in the all the character elements, moving the title to the top and adding additional text. The original maroon/brown colour ways (seen below in the Amazon digital elements) were changed on the packaging to a much brighter teal colour and the banding on the back utilised some of the visual motifs to differentiate the content. The O-ring sleeves featured an embossed title.
From executive producer Angelina Jolie and the creators of the Academy Award-nominated The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, comes the highly-anticipated new feature based on Deborah Ellis’ bestselling novel.
The Breadwinner tells the story of Parvana, an 11-year-old girl growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. When her father is wrongfully arrested, Parvana disguises herself as a boy in order to support her family. With dauntless perseverance, Parvana draws strength from the stories her father told her, and ultimately risks her life to discover if he is still alive. Equal parts thrilling and enchanting, The Breadwinner is a timely and inspiring tale about the transcendent power of stories, and their potential to unite and heal us all.
